Welcome to Toy Shed, and our very first blog post in the countdown to Christmas.
We are a small and independent toy shop specialising in wooden toys and puzzles, role play toys, open ended toys, crafts, dolls, teddies and traditional toys. There is a growing goal in parents to buy meaningful and quality toys for their child that will be both fun and educational at the same time, and not full of plastic. Also it means a lot to some parents to avoid UK chain stores based in Ireland, or avoid global retail corporations online. Supporting small independent retailers within Ireland live ourselves is supporting the Irish economy, and supporting a real family rather than a huge global corporation.
As the mother of young children, an online store allows me flexibility to drop and collect my children at the various different school collection times, whilst working away in between and in the evenings. I generally pack orders early in the morning, or at night, so orders placed in the afternoon won’t be shipped until the following working day. With Christmas just around the corner, there may be a few last minute gifts that you require. An Post released their final Christmas posting dates for 2021, and they have said Wednesday 22nd December is the last day. I feel that this is cutting it a bit tight though, as orders need time to be packed etc first. To ensure Christmas delivery, you should have your order placed at the latest on Monday 20thDecember. An Post will be under extreme pressure that week, so it is safest to give an extra day or so for delivery.
The cost of shipping seems to increase each year. Beginning December 2021 for orders under the value of €30 we will ship your toys and games with An Post for €5.95. For orders over €30 we will charge a subsidised price of €3. When you shop from the comfort of your home, €3 really isn’t a lot when it allows you to avoid traffic, parking and travel time to get to a toy store. There are also the additional costs of fuel, possibly parking charges (and the inevitable coffee!) that you can avoid when you shop from the comfort of your own home.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas, and a happy and healthy new year.
